Mission Statement

The Commack Fire Department is located in Suffolk County, New York ( Long Island ). Our Department is 100% volunteer , consisting of 125 members.We have proudly served the community of Commack since 1906. We cover an area of 18 square miles with a dedicated Truck Company and three Engine Companies responding from four stations.

 

AFTERNOON WORKING HOUSE FIRE

Just before noon today a Structure Fire was transmitted I/V/O Wyandanch Blvd x Shirley Ct. Chiefs 30,31 Engines 3,4,11,12,13 Quint 14 and Fire Police 8 responded. Chief 30 was first on scene and transmmitted the working fire. The house was 2 stories on top of hill with Colliers conditions on all floors. Heavy Fire was showing from the 2,3 corner and through the roof. Original reports was that the house was vacant. As the search team made entrance to the only accessible door on the first floor a cat came running out.Neighbors confirmed that the house wasn't vacant. Engine 13 arrived and steamered a hydrant. 2 2 1/2 lines were stretched and put into operation. Operations were hampered due to the terrain and numerous objects that littered the yard and inside of the house. Another cat was rescued and it was confirmed that the homeowner wasnt home. Mutual Aid went out for the Happague Fd for a FAST team and Kings Park for 1 Engine for coverage. Hauppague was put to work and Kings Park was moved up to the scene. The Smithtown Fd was request for a FAST team and East Nortport for standby. Crews remained on scene doing extensive overhaul until 14:35


 
   
   
OVERTURN MVA ON THE BORDER

09:55 An overturn MVA with entrapment was transmitted on Cedar Rd. x Newark St. Chief 31 Rescue 9 and Engine 13 responded. Due to the call being on the border the East Northport FD also reaponded with 2 Chiefs a Rescue Engine and a Heavy Rescue. Crews were able to open the door to get to the driver but had to shore up the tree from coming down on the vehicle. 1 Patient was transported with minor injuries.

15:12 Commack requested a Landing Zone for a medivac behind the Commack Cinemas on Crooked Hill Rd for a sublect struck by an automobile. Chiefs 30,31,32 Engines 3,4,11 responded.


 
   
   
MUTUAL AID TO EAST NORTHPORT FIRE

Just before 23:00 Hrs  The East Northport Fd requested a Mutual Aid to the scene of a house fire on Clay Pitts Rd x Cedrus. All Chiefs Engine 12 and Quint 14 responded. Fire was in a 2 story vacant house. ENPT crews initiated an interior attact but quickly withdrew do to rapid deteriorating conditions due to baloon construction. Crews withdrew from the house and a defensive attack was started. Quint 14 setup on the 1/4 corner while East Northports tower ladder took the 1/2 corner. Engine 12 picked up a hydrant and fed Quint 14. Within in minutes of withdrawing from the house the entire roof collapsed. The fire was under control @ 00:30. Commack units secured @ 01:00.


 
   
   
TWO SERIOUS MOTORCYCLE MVA'S 1 FATAL

At 14:37 A Motor Vehicle accident involving a Motorcycle was transmitted on Harned Rd. x Cutchogue Lane. Chiefs 30,32,33 Rescue 9 Engines 3,4,13 responded. Units rolloed up on a Motorcycle vs.Car. Commack EMS requested a Medivac for the Motorcyclits who had serious injuries. A Landing zone was established at the Wood Park Scool on New Highway. The patient was flown to USB Hospital.

Just hours later another MVA involving a  Motorcycle was transmitted on Jericho Tpke x Rural St. Chiefs 30,32 Rescue 9 Engines 11,12,13 responded. Dispatch advised that numerous walkins at the Firehouse that 1 patient was pinned under a vehicle. Chief 30 was first on scene and advised that 2 cars and a motorcyclist was involved. The motorcyclist was pinned under 1 car and 1 person was pinned in one of the vehicles. One Crew quickly extricated the motorcyclist who was transported by ground in traumatic arrest. Another crew went to work with the Hurst Tool to take the door on the other vehicle to extricate one.Sadly the Motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Units remained on scene until 21:00 hrs.


 
   
   
MUTUAL AID TO BRENTWOOD HOUSE FIRE

18:22 The Brentwood FD requested a RIT response to a house fire on St Andrews Dr. Chiefs 30,31,33 Rescue 9 and Engine 13 responded. As units were responding dispatch advised that units would be going to work once on scene. Rescue 9's crew went to work on the 2nd floor opening up and checking for extension. Units remained on scene until 19:50 Hrs.


 
   
   
MUTUAL AID TO KINGS PARK HOUSE FIRE

18:37 The Kings Park FD request the RIT team to a house fire on Sunken Meadow RD. Chiefs 31,32,33 Rescue 9 and Engine 4 repsponded. Fire was in the kitchen of a 2 story salt box house. Kings Park crews made quick work of the fire containing it to the kitchen. Units secured at 19:50 Hrs.


 
   
   
COMMACK ROAD HEAVY RESCUE

17:23  Motor Vehicle Accident with entrapment was transmitted on Commack Rd. x Crooked Hill Rd. Chief 31 Rescue 9 Engine's 3 and 12 responded. Chief 31 arrived and advised 1 driver was pinned in a van. Rescue 9's crew went to work removing the door and displacing the dashboard. A Medivac was requested but cancelled due to a long ETA. Engine 12 stretched a line while Engine 3 secured the vehicles and fluids in the roadway.


 
   
   
RIT TEAM GOES TO BRENTWOOD HOUSE FIRE

20:00 hrs The Brentwwod Fire Dept requsted a RIT team to respond to a house fire on Lukens Ave, Chief 31 Rescue 9 and Engine 3 responded. Upon arrival Recue 9's crew was put to work doing primary searcehs in the basement and assisting with overhaul. Engine 3's crew stood by as RIT. Fire was in a 2 story private dwelling with heavy fire on the first floor. Brentwoods crews made a quick stop holding the fire to the first floor. Units secured @ 22:00


 
   
   
NORTHERN STATE OVERTURN

Just after midnight a Motor Vehicle Accident with entrapment was activated on the Westbound Northern State Parkway east of Commack Rd. All Chiefs Rescue 9 Engine 3 and Quint 14 responded. Chief 33 was forst on scene and advised of a 1 car overturn MVA with noone trapped. Units assisted State Police with traffic and secured the vehicle.
